Democratic Primary Results!
We’re savoring this week’s victories for VID-endorsed candidates—what a sweep!
Thanks to the hard work of our members and volunteers, VID helped deliver victories in key races. The results demonstrate the impact of VID on the campaign trail.
At the top of the ticket: while Brad Lander didn’t win the mayoral nomination, his campaign remains a powerful example of principle and integrity. His decision to cross-endorse Zohran Mamdani helped secure a historic victory and block a Cuomo comeback.
As we look ahead to November, the mayoral race promises to be a contentious one. Zohran Mamdani is the Democratic nominee, but both incumbent Eric Adams and former Governor Andrew Cuomo are staying in the race as independents. GOP attacks have already begun—and some Democratic establishment figures are still backing Cuomo, signaling divisions within the party. VID has not yet endorsed in the general election mayoral race. That vote will take place next week at the monthly meeting.
As always, VID is committed to ensuring Democratic victories behind candidates we believe in. That commitment was on full display across the ballot. Here’s how our endorsed candidates performed in other key races (results below as of 7/29, final ranked choice voting rounds to be completed on Tuesday, 7/1):
-
Comptroller: Mark Levine won the race with 48.1%.
-
District Attorney: Alvin Bragg was re-elected with 74.9% of the vote.
- Public Advocate: Jumaane Williams was re-elected with 71.3% of the vote.
- Manhattan Borough President: Brad Hoylman-Sigal currently has 48.7% of the vote to Keith Powers' 38.2%.
-
City Council D3: Erik Bottcher won with 74% of the vote.
-
City Council D2: Harvey Epstein currently leads with 39% of the votes. In a distant second is first-time candidate Sarah Batchu, who worked in Mayor Bill de Blasio’s office. However, with five candidates, ranked-choice voting could have a more pronounced effect on this race, and it’s too close to call.
-
City Council D1: Chris Marte: District 1. Currently leading at 49.2% of the vote, but has not yet surpassed the 50% needed to be declared the winner.
