Nov. 16th Meeting Recap

Nov 21, 2023

Missed our recent meeting? Get caught up here.  And we hope to see you at our next meeting on December 14th.

VID’s November 16 Membership Meeting started off with a report by president Jonathan Geballe and congrats to Sara Kimbell and Carline Donahue for launching our new VID website!   66th A.D. District Leader Jen Hoppe gave her report including County Committee update and her polling site walk on election day.

The featured speaker was State Senator Brian Kavanagh who spoke about and took questions on housing issues (vouchers, affordable housing, developer tax credits like 421-a), campaign finance, and the New York State Democratic party.  He also announced the just-signed bill to fight deed theft.

Our State Committee members Rachel Levine and Ben Yee reported on the New York state party business meeting on Nov. 14-15, and the five reform resolutions presented for state party transparency and grassroots funding and infrastructure.  Livvie Mann reported on activists at the meeting site who rallied, shouted, lobbied and leafletted, all aimed at party hierarchy to push bottom up empowerment and questioning if Jay Jacobs should continue as NY party chair.  Melissa Carty also reported to VID on upcoming state races for the six congressional districts to flip, and a couple to defend.

VID Campaign Committee’s chair, Tony Hoffmann advised of a future Campaign Committee planning meeting (Dec. 4) and the schedule for VID officer elections (December and January), endorsements and petitioning.  He encouraged VID members to join the campaign committee for the crucial work we need to do for the 2024 campaigns.
